Israel Gonzalez made people sit up and take notice at a press conference. The Head Coach of Alba Berlin expressed his dissatisfaction with his team’s current preparation and criticized the fitness level of his players
The upcoming season is approaching, but the mood at Alba Berlin is anything but optimistic. At a media event on Wednesday, Gonzalez expressed his concern about the current state of the team: “We haven’t trained and developed as we had planned. We’re not where we should be,” said the coach, adding: ”I’m very concerned about the situation.”
The lack of development is particularly alarming for the coach. “We haven’t prepared well this year. And that’s a shame,” explained Gonzalez, emphasizing that it was mainly due to the lack of intensity and the frequent injuries in the team. “Some of our key players haven’t been able to train consistently and you can see that now. “
Gonzalez annoyed about state of fitness
Back in the previous season, Alba Berlin had to contend with a difficult start, which was mainly due to the fact that many players started training late because of the World Cup. However, this problem did not exist this year. Nevertheless, little seems to be working at the moment. Gonzalez was disappointed: “It’s very annoying. Because this year we had all the players with us from the start. But we’re not able to train with all the players for two days in a row.”
The Berliners are running out of time. “We still have just under two weeks until the first game. I hope we can improve,” said Gonzalez. Only a few players are currently fully fit. Gonzalez lists the players: “Jonas, Luis, Malte, Justin Bean, Will McDowell-White, Trevion Williams.” All the other players are still struggling with health problems.
However, there is not much time for training. Alba is now in Turkey, where it will play three test games against Anadolu Efes, Zalgiris Kaunas and Tofas in the space of four days as part of the Gloria Cup
