“It just fits”: Voigtmann joins FC Bayern

FC Bayern Munich has announced the signing of Johannes Voigtmann. The center has signed a three-year deal with the German Euroleague team

The big man was last under contract with Olimpia Milan, but is now returning to the BBL, where he played for the Skyliners Frankfurt between 2012 and 2016.

“In Jo Voigtmann, we are getting a player of international class who not only has a lot of experience from his time at top European clubs, but is also a leader,” said Bayern’s Managing Director Marko Pesic.

The center most recently played for the national team at the Olympic Games, where he played an important role as co-captain under new Bayern coach Gordon Herbert. Alongside Niels Giffey, Oscar da Silva, Andreas Obst and Nick Weiler-Babb, Voigtmann will be the fifth German international to play for Bayern next year.

“Part of a very exciting project ”

“I’m very happy to be in Munich and to be returning to Germany and the Bundesliga after many years abroad,” said Voigtmann, who has also spent time in Munich. “I will now be part of what I think is a very exciting project at Bayern, great potential, a new arena, a new coach and many players with whom I have already played together and enjoy doing so. I also have a close family connection to Munich. It’s a perfect fit and I’m looking forward to this new challenge, the team and the fans in Munich.”

“Jumbo Jo” started 18 of the 34 games for Milan in the Euroleague, where the 31-year-old averaged 7.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game in 20.2 minutes
