WWE rival AEW is reportedly expecting the Lucha Bros. to move to the market leader soon. There is also a lot of movement on the personnel market
The transfer carousel between the two major US wrestling leagues is apparently continuing.
While Ricochet is said to be on his way from WWE to AEW and Bobby Lashley, MVP and Shane McMahon may also follow, two AEW veterans are apparently going the other way.
Lucha Bros. apparently on their way to WWE
As the WrestlePurists portal and well-known journalist and podcaster Bryan Alvarez (Wrestling Observer) both report, Tony Khan’s league is expecting former tag team champions The Lucha Bros (Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero Miedo) to let their contracts expire and sign with WWE.
AEW has also reportedly scrapped plans to put them in a major match for the Trios Title at the annual All In at London’s Wembley Stadium in two and a half weeks’ time.
According to multiple AEW sources, the Lucha Bros are expected to leave AEW when their contracts expire this year.
Some sources speculated they were heading to WWE, some claimed it was a formality.

The two masked brothers from Mexico have also been active on the US scene for many years and have been associated with AEW since the league was founded in 2019. Their feud against the Young Bucks (Nick and Matt Jackson), two of the league’s founders, was one of AEW’s first central programs – the spectacular ladder and cage matches between the two duos were among the best matches in the league’s young history.
In the fall and winter of 2022/23, Fenix and Penta, along with their British ally Pac, were at the center of another important rivalry: The Death Triangle established the then newly introduced Trios Titles in a major match series against the then incarnation of The Elite (Young Bucks and Kenny Omega).
Now, the 39-year-old Penta and his six-year younger brother Fenix are reportedly seeking a change of scenery that would further elevate WWE’s tag team division. According to reports, longtime top independent team The Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin) are also on their way to WWE.
Daniel Garcia’s AEW future also open
The portal Lucha Libre Online reported back in June that Penta’s contract would expire in August or September, according to Fightful, Fenix’s deal also ends in an unspecified period this year.
WrestlePurists, citing “multiple AEW sources,” reports that the league is expecting the Lucha Bros. to leave and that a move to WWE is assumed to be more or less certain. Alvarez reports similarly, speaking of an “internal assumption” of a WWE switch at AEW.
If a switch does happen, it would be another signal of the new permeability between WWE and AEW since “Triple H” Paul Levesque took over, who seems more open to all types of wrestlers than disgraced predecessor and father-in-law Vince McMahon was
Another AEW wrestler whose contract is expiring is young top technician Daniel Garcia. WrestlePurists and the Observer both recently reported that MJF’s brutal attack on Garcia was intended as a possible swan song should he leave for WWE – or as the occasion for a major comeback feud should he stay. AEW is said to be confident Garcia will choose AEW, meanwhile.
