Oliver Kahn may be about to get involved with a French football club. The former Bayern official is in talks with Girondins Bordeaux.
The French club Girondins Bordeaux, with a long tradition, has now crashed down to the fourth division after filing for bankruptcy last summer. But soon the club could possibly have a prominent man at its side: Oliver Kahn.
As the French newspaper Sud Ouest reports, former Olympique Marseille boss Jacques-Henri Eyraud is said to have established initial contacts with Girondins owner Gerard Lopez on behalf of the former world-class keeper in December. An initial exchange was apparently positive, but so far it has not yet become more concrete.
Kahn also confirmed this on Thursday when asked by Bild: “Talks about a possible investment in Girondins Bordeaux are in the early stages. There is nothing more to say at this time.”
Kahn stepped down as Bayern Munich’s CEO 19 months ago. Shortly after the eleventh consecutive championship, which FCB won in Cologne on May 27, 2023, it was announced that the club was parting ways with the 55-year-old and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic.
Kahn’s comeback at Bordeaux would now be quite a surprise. The 55-year-old would have to do some groundwork at the six-time French champions. The club is currently far removed from professional football after its insolvency.
Kahn is familiar with the French club from duels in his time as an active footballer. In 1996, the then goalkeeper won his first major title against the French club. In the two final matches, Munich won 2-0 at home and 3-1 away. As is well known, several more titles followed with the German record champions for the goalkeeper.
