Inter’s mastermind Inzaghi extends his contract until 2026

Simone Inzaghi has had big shoes to fill at Inter Milan, but has more than filled them with the latest season. The well-deserved reward has now followed: the trust of the Nerazzurri bosses

The story of the two Inzaghi brothers is a special one: one, Filippo, was a world-class striker for Juventus and later Milan, a multiple champion and Champions League winner, as well as an absolute goalscorer and 2006 World Cup winner. And the other, Simone, played for Lazio Rome for many years, but only won the UEFA Super Cup in 1999 and the Scudetto in 2000 during his career. As a coach, however, he has long since left his big brother behind.

While Filippo was Serie C champion with FC Venezia in 2016/17 and was sacked by US Salernitana last February, Simone has been a member of the European top shelf since this year at the latest.

Impressive 94 points

With an impressive 94 points, 89 goals and only 22 goals conceded, the 48-year-old led the superbly coordinated Inter Milan team to their next championship in his third year – their 20th overall. Before that, the native of northern Italy (Piacenza) had already achieved two Coppa triumphs with the team.

No wonder that the Inter bosses around President Beppe Marotta have now extended his contract, which expires in 2025. The new one runs until the summer of 2026, with a salary of 6.5 million euros per season being discussed. The well-deserved reward for Simone Inzaghi, who has more than filled the big shoes of his predecessor

The fifth most successful season in Serie A history

None other than Antonio Conte (now Napoli) had successfully managed the Lombards between 2019 and 2021 and led the traditional club, long lost in mediocrity, to its first Scudetto in 2021 since the treble year of 2010 under José Mourinho.

Inzaghi has long been firmly anchored in Inter’s history, especially as the most recent championship with 94 points was also the fifth most successful in Serie A history. Only Juventus 2013/14 (102 points), Inter 2006/07 (97), Juventus 2017/18 (95) and Torino 1947/48 (94) had collected points just as diligently or even more diligently
