Will Lionel Messi play for an official title against former arch-rivals Real Madrid again? According to a Spanish media report, Inter Miami will apparently be allowed to participate in the 2025 Club World Cup.
There are several chances for very special duels: Lionel Messi, for example, will face FC Bayern after the 2-8 demolition in August 2020, and will face off against former archrivals Real Madrid – or the Boca Juniors. And these will not be pre-season games, but competitive matches.
As the Spanish Marca reports, FIFA is about to officially announce that Inter Miami will be allowed to take part in the 2025 Club World Cup. The decision has been made for some time.
According to the report, Miami is being rewarded for winning the Supporters’ Shield as the best team of the regular season. FIFA apparently no longer wants to wait to see which team becomes the MLS champion. Miami, on the other hand, is one of the top favorites for this title, as they are on the verge of an MLS record.
30 of the 32 participants have been determined
The four places from the CONCACAF confederation will be taken by CF Monterrey, Club Leon, CF Pachuca (Mexico) and Seattle Sounders (MLS). Inter Miami (host slot) is now also to be added as a guest.
The Club World Cup will be held in the USA from June 15 to July 15, 2025. A total of 32 teams will play 63 matches. 30 participants have already been determined – including FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund from the Bundesliga, who can also look forward to a possible duel with Messi. Chelsea (2021), Real Madrid (2022 and 2024) and Manchester City (2023) are competing as Champions League winners from previous years.
The last place to go to Miami is awarded to the winner of the Copa Libertadores, although the final will not take place until next December.
