Iniesta moves to the desert – but not to Saudi Arabia

Andres Iniesta still hasn’t had enough: The 39-year-old attacking player is changing clubs for the second time in his professional career. After his adventure in Japan, Iniesta is now moving to the United Arab Emirates

He is one of the greatest footballers of his time: Andres Iniesta. The Spaniard not only became La Liga champion nine times with his boyhood club FC Barcelona, he also won numerous trophies – in addition to four Champions League trophies and six Copa del Rey triumphs with Barça, the central midfielder triumphed twice at a European Championship (2008, 2012) and once at a World Cup (2010).

La Roja even owes the World Cup to Iniesta, the winning goal scorer in that year’s final against the Netherlands (1:0 n.V.). Iniesta, once a congenial partner of Xavi, still does not want to resign despite his advanced age.

Rising star Emirates Ras Al-Khaima makes the running

As the legendary number 8, who spent around five years under contract in Japan with Vissel Kobe and had previously played over 600 games for Barcelona, has a new club: Emirates Ras Al-Khaima, a first division promoted side from the United Arab Emirates.

In the desert, but just not like so many other players in Saudi Arabia, Iniesta has thus been given a contract, although he had hardly been used at Vissel Kobe lately. After his new club posted a video of the 131-time Spain international being met by club officials at the airport on Tuesday night, Iniesta confirmed the transfer on Wednesday.

Iniesta exudes “enthusiasm as always “

Via social media, the Spanish legend said: “New club, new challenge“. But: “The same enthusiasm as always.” So Iniesta wants to keep showing everyone.
