Permanent rain over the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Wednesday prevented driving by the 33 Indy 500 participants – Weather forecast for Thursday good
Practice sessions as part of the 106th running of the Indianapolis 500 could not take place as planned on the second day of the practice week. Because it rained for hours on Wednesday in Indianapolis, the planned six hours of IndyCar practice were out of the question. In the end, it was not possible to drive at all on Wednesday.
Although the forecast predicted that the rain would stop in the early evening. But with the air temperature below 20 degrees Celsius, as it was all day, the 2.5-mile superspeedway can’t just be dried out in a matter of minutes.
Therefore, shortly after 15:00 local time (21:00 CEST), Penske Entertainment Group officials decided to cancel the practice day altogether.

The last time a full day of practice was cancelled was on 17 May 2016 in Indianapolis. In preparation for the 2022 edition of the Indy 500, the cancellation of Wednesday’s running means that the two free practice sessions that had gone over as scheduled on Tuesday remain the only ones so far.
Positive: For Thursday, the day originally planned as the third day of practice, the weather forecast looks much friendlier. According to this, light cloud cover is to be expected, but not precipitation.
On Thursday, six hours of free practice are planned again. The same applies for Friday, the so-called “Fast-Friday”.
