Daniel Theis has explained his move to AS Monaco, emphasizing that Head Coach Vasilios Spanoulis played a major role in the decision.
”It’s clear that Coach Spanoulis played an important role in my decision. We got in touch pretty quickly – he called me. We talked about what I could bring to the team and he appreciated my ability to win in basketball,“ Theis said in a video released by the club.
”I play physically on defense, especially in pick-and-roll situations. And on offense, I have several skills that I can use, including switches and drops. I have a lot of tools in my arsenal, and he liked that. And that’s great. It’s an incredible feeling to hear from a coach that he really wants you – especially from someone who was so successful as a player and has that competitive spirit in basketball,” Theis elaborated.
Theis has known Spanoulis for a long time
The fact that he has known Spanoulis for many years also played a role in the final decision. “I think we met for the first time six or seven years ago on vacation. That played an important role in my decision,” he added.
After eight years in the NBA, Theis is returning to Europe to sign a contract with the French club until 2026. He last played in the NBA for the New Orleans Pelicans before being traded to OKC and then released.
