Timo Glock is looking forward to seeing familiar faces in the DTM – Why he is particularly looking forward to seeing his former teammate Marco Wittmann and what connects the two of them
When Timo Glock makes his DTM comeback at the season opener in Oschersleben, the 42-year-old will meet old acquaintances from his previous DTM career. This is another reason why the former Formula 1 driver knows that his return in the Dörr-McLaren will not be easy.
“There are many excellent drivers in the DTM, including experienced specialists who will be tough opponents,” says Glock, who has contested 148 DTM races to date. “Whether it’s Marco Wittmann, Lucas Auer or Maro Engel, they are all among the absolute top contenders.”
“Wittmann is certainly one of the people I’m particularly looking forward to racing, even though we’re in different cars this time,” says the Dörr McLaren driver with a grin, who competed exclusively for BMW in the DTM between 2013 and 2022.
“We were teammates during BMW’s Class 1 days, but now it will be exciting to see him as a rival on the track,” recalls Glock. In his DTM debut season in 2013, he had Wittmann as a teammate at MTEK, which was a great help to the former Formula 1 driver, who initially struggled after switching to the DTM.
Even if it was less about advice and more about comparing data back then, Glock is looking forward to seeing Wittmann again, who was also his teammate at RMG from 2016 to 2020. “Generally speaking, it’s just nice to see familiar faces again!”
Wittmann is also “looking forward to the battles”
And the joy is obviously not one-sided – because Wittmann is also thrilled about the return of his former team-mate! “Congrats, I’m looking forward to the battles with you,” commented the two-time DTM champion on the Instagram post with which Glock announced his return to the DTM in December 2024.
No wonder, because Wittmann also has a lot to thank the 42-year-old for: the current BMW driver was once a scholarship holder at the Deutsche Post Speed Academy, where he was taken under the wing of juror Glock.
Even though the former teammates will have to compete against each other in the 2025 DTM season, they maintain a good relationship, as Glock’s response to Wittmann’s comment on Instagram shows. “Polishing the rearview mirror,” counters the new McLaren driver. “Happy to have you as a colleague.”
