The DFB gives the green light: If U-21 national team coach Stefan Kuntz reaches an agreement with the Turkish federation on working together as national coach, he can leave his contract with the DFB.
So the way is clear, the DFB is sending a clear signal: should U-21 national team coach Stefan Kuntz reach an agreement on working with Turkey, the German federation would let him out of his contract, which is valid until 2023. This was decided and announced by the presidium on Friday. So far, no such agreement has been reached.
The DFB does not want to “block this next step in Kuntz’s career”, according to the association’s statement. The decision was also “an expression of the friendship between German and Turkish football”.
Kuntz, who has coached the U21s since 2016, has repeatedly flirted with a departure in recent weeks. Most recently, he himself confirmed talks with the Turkish federation, whereupon the DFB prepared for his imminent departure.
