“I was speechless too”: Cuban on the night of the Doncic trade

Mark Cuban has once again emphasized that he knew nothing about the Luka Doncic trade. The former owner of the Mavericks made it clear once again that he would never have traded the Slovenian.

As Cuban explained in the podcast Your Mom’s House, he only found out about the impending deal right after it was announced. “I got a message. It was from our general manager and I thought he was asking for my opinion,” Cuban recalled. “But then I quickly realized that he was telling me what had already happened.”

Cuban sold the Mavericks to the Adelson family in December 2023, with son-in-law Patrick Dumont taking control of the team as governor. It was originally said that Cuban would retain this role with minority interests, but that did not happen, so Cuban’s influence was limited.

“I told Niko that I didn’t agree with it, but I no longer had any decision-making power,” said Cuban. ”If I still had influence, there would have been no trade. I was as speechless as everyone else.”

Instead, Dumont approved the trade because, according to Cuban, Harrison trusts him. “And that’s what happened,” the 66-year-old noted with regard to the Doncic trade, who maintained a good relationship with the former Mavericks superstar during his time as owner.
