With 20-year-old Finn Gehrsitz, another German will start in the World Endurance Championship this season – For which experienced team he is starting and what he hopes for
With 20-year-old Finn Gehrsitz, another German will start in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) this year. The Stuttgart native will compete in the LMGT3 class and drive a Lexus RC F GT3 for the French team Akkodis ASP together with Ben Barnicoat and Arnold Robin.
“Practically only the best factory teams and top-class drivers are competing here and the championship is highly competitive,” says Gehrsitz, who has been active in GT3 racing for several years. “But I feel very well prepared and the first tests were also promising.”
“Thanks to my outings in the European Le Mans Series, I am very familiar with endurance racing, even though I have tended to drive sprint races in recent years. I am sure that I can perform very well together with my two teammates.”
“Great honor and challenge” for Gehrsitz
For the 20-year-old, a big dream is coming true. “I’m very happy that it has now worked out after working towards it for so many years,” beams Gehrsitz, who was still competing in the ADAC GT Masters in the 2023 season.
“It’s a great honor and challenge to compete in the LMGT3 class with a strong team like Akkodis ASP,” says the 20-year-old. ‘Lexus and Toyota are among the most experienced brands in the WEC, and I’m really looking forward to working with them.’
The Akkodis ASP team has shown strong performances in the past, especially during the Mercedes-AMG era. Last season’s entry with Lexus did not go as hoped because the team could not compete at the front of the LMGT3 class.
Lexus competitive in 2025?
But in the 2025 season, that could change: a new, harder Goodyear tire should benefit the front-engined cars, including the Lexus. In addition, the Lexus RC F GT3, which has been on the road since 2017, has been optimized in terms of its aerodynamics.
“We are very happy to have Finn join our team,” said Team Principal Jerome Policand. ”ASP has always believed in giving promising young drivers the chance to prove themselves at the highest level, and Finn is the perfect example of this tradition.”
“He will be working alongside experienced drivers who are willing to show him the ropes of the championship – in particular, the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans. We are confident that with his talent and their guidance, Finn will succeed in this exciting new chapter of his career. Welcome on board!”
