Budapest – The team doctor of the Hungarian Tennis Association (MTSZ) allegedly issued a series of false certificates for negative PCR tests during the Corona pandemic.
This facilitated trips abroad by tennis players, for the Davis Cup team and youth teams, the Budapest daily “Nepszava” reported.
The tennis federation announced that it would investigate the incidents. If confirmed, disciplinary action would be taken and, if necessary, criminal charges would be brought against those responsible, the statement said. The Budapest Semmelweis Medical University terminated the employment of the full-time doctor. It also withdrew his licence to supervise the tennis association.
The doctor had issued the false test results in the name of Semmelweis University without having examined the athletes concerned for the coronavirus. “Nepszava” assumes that the scandal reaches all the way to the top of the tennis federation.
The paper has an e-mail from an official addressed to parents whose children were to compete in a tournament in Austria. It says: “The children need a PCR test to enter Austria. We can now solve this by you sending me the following data and our doctor will issue the result; the children will be spared the test. “
