Horrendous CL ticket prices: Villa fans feel “punished and exploited”

Aston Villa fans have reacted with horror to the ticket prices their club has set for the Champions League. FC Bayern’s opponents reportedly see no other option

After 42 years, Aston Villa are back in the most important European cup. However, the supporters’ anticipation ahead of the Champions League adventure was significantly dampened when they found out about the ticket prices their club is charging for the four home games.

Tickets for the clashes with FC Bayern (October 2), FC Bologna (October 22), Juventus Turin (November 27) and Celtic Glasgow (January 29, all 9 p.m.) will cost the equivalent of 101 euros, 112 euros or 115 euros. Only season ticket holders pay less at €83, €94 and €97 respectively.

The Aston Villa Supporters’ Trust (AVST), the club’s most important fan association, reacted with great disappointment. Before the season, they had spoken to club representatives about the ticket prices for the new season and made it clear “that the prices in the Champions League should not be higher than those for a Category A match”. These are between 65 and 109 euros.

“For the club to announce Champions League ticket prices that are far higher than Category A this season is extremely disappointing,” the AVST wrote in a statement, pointing to recent problems with entry, access to seats and toilets as well as the pricing policy of the competition. “Compared to other English clubs playing in the Champions League this year, and even UEFA’s own price cap for away tickets, today’s announcement is inappropriate. “

FC Bayern charges between 19 and 100 euros – with one exception

For the current season, UEFA has stipulated that away tickets in the Champions League may not cost more than 60 euros. In 2025/26, the limit will fall further to 50 euros. Liverpool FC only charges home fans between 36 and 72 euros, Manchester City between 45 and 75 euros. In comparison: FC Bayern charges between €19 and €100, only against Paris Saint-Germain between €19 and €120.

According to the Guardian, Aston Villa saw no other way of complying with the Premier League’s financial rules – but supporters are not convinced. “The loyal Villa fans who have waited 40 years to experience this momentous season are being punished and exploited at the expense of adhering to the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules and the club’s publicly known revenue targets. “
