The top match of the women’s Bundesliga on this 5th matchday fulfilled the expectations. Bayern dominated for long stretches, but Hoffenheim was suddenly on the spot with Billa scoring the first FCB goal and managed to keep the game open towards the end. Nevertheless, the Munich women won their fifth match of the season with a 3:1 score.
Compared to the 0-0 draw with Benfica Lisbon, FCB coach Jens Scheuer changed his starting line-up in three positions: Instead of Wenninger, Jakobsson and Rall, Zadrazil, Magull and Beerensteyn played. For Hoffenheim, Gabor Gallai made two changes from the 5-0 win over HB Köge in the top flight: Harsch and Linder came on for Wienroither and Hagel.
Bayern Munich dominated the game from the start and hardly allowed TSG to develop. Numerous chances were the result, for example by Dallmann (23rd), who was alone in front of goal but played inside to Schüller. Her shot, however, was blocked by Bühler.
On the half-hour mark, Hoffenheim were able to break free and promptly had their best chance of the game: Harsch headed close to the right post, but couldn’t get the ball into the net.
The Bayern women then looked a little unsettled, but survived this phase – and scored a deserved goal themselves: In the 43rd minute, Gwinn crossed accurately from the left to Schüller, whose header landed in the net.
Schüller increases, Billa strikes back
After the break, Hoffenheim came into the game much better and repeatedly made small pinpricks. But once again they failed to score, instead Schüller was on target again in the 61st minute, this time with a direct shot after Dallmann’s pass. The 1899 goalkeeper Tufekovic, who was in good form, again had no chance to defend.
The game seemed to be decided – and yet, out of nowhere, the women from Kraichgau were suddenly on the spot: Billa took the measure from 18 metres in the 76th minute. The ball became longer and longer and finally hit the top right corner to make it 1:2. For Benkarth and the Munich team, it was the first goal they had conceded this season.
Despite TSG’s best efforts, the game could not be turned around and Beerensteyn made everything clear in injury time. Damnjanovic, who had just come on as a substitute, failed to beat Tufekovic, but the Dutchwoman converted the rebound to make it 3:1. Subsequent attempts by Hagel and Steinert to correct the result were unsuccessful.
Bayern thus also won their fifth Bundesliga match and will also be looking for their first win in the Champions League group stage on Thursday. Their opponent will then be BK Häcken from Sweden. Hoffenheim have to face FC Arsenal on this day.
