Novak Djokovic can look back on a successful career. Others can now share in this success, as a racket from a special Grand Slam triumph is now being auctioned off – a huge sum is expected to be won
With 24 Grand Slam titles, Novak Djokovic is the most successful tennis player of all time. So it’s no wonder that items for auction from the Serb are in high demand. A racket from a hugely significant Grand Slam success is currently up for grabs. If you want to buy it at auction, you will have to pay a hefty sum.
Djokovic’s French Open victory in 2016 marked the then 29-year-old’s personal career Grand Slam. This means he has won all four Grand Slams in his career at least once. Only seven players, including Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, have achieved this before him.
After his triumph in the final over Andy Murray (3:6, 6:1, 6:2, 6:4), the “Djoker” threw his racket into the crowd. Spectator Abby Doherty was the lucky one to catch the racket. “It was all in slow motion. He just threw it into the crowd. I had an ‘Oh my God’ moment because he was coming straight at us,” she told the Daily Mail.
The coveted piece is now being auctioned off on the SCP Auctions platform. According to experts, the bat will go for around 100,000 US dollars. The bids have already reached almost 20,000 euros.
The Serb’s racket is unlikely to set a new sales record. A few years ago, Roger Federer auctioned off several items from his Grand Slam successes for a total of around 1.5 million euros, with all the money going to his foundation.
