High hurdle Münster: RWO still wants to “stay in the top flight”

Rot-Weiß Oberhausen often have to chase a deficit in the Regionalliga West. In the top match at Preußen Münster, they must not allow themselves to do that despite a few absentees.

It seems like a jinx: For almost two months now, the Cloverleafs have been trailing in every game, which usually ends in some kind of luck – sometimes only in injury time. Against VfB Homberg, there was reason to fear the worst after a weak first half, and for the first time in a long time, the fans whistled at their team, chanted “We want to see you fight” and were allowed to cheer at the end. “I’m very happy about this home win,” admitted coach Mike Terranova, who admitted: “After the clubs in front of us won on Friday night, of course we were under pressure.”

That pressure intensified after the early goal behind by ex-Red-White Jan Wellers. The fact that RWO winger Manuel Kabambi limped off the pitch immediately afterwards, however, also explains the game and its course to some extent: Kabambi had announced great form after five minutes and given a wonderful cross to Anton Heinz, who completely overhauled it and almost sent it into the nearby Rhine-Herne Canal. To make matters worse, Kabambi tore a muscle fibre minutes later while chasing Wellers. He was replaced by the out-of-form Shaibou Oubeyapwa, and the tactical guidelines were shattered early on in the game.

“In Münster we have to bring something to the pitch “

It only got better after the change of ends when Nico Buckmaier came on for Jerome Propheter, who also seemed overplayed, and breathed new life into the game in a creative and powerful manner. A strong quarter of an hour with Heinz’s classy free-kick to make it 1-1 and two well-considered goal actions by the further improved Jan-Lucas Dorow were finally enough for the Red and Whites to win, which should have been higher in view of various great chances.

Terranova is looking ahead with courage: “In Münster, we have to put something on the pitch to stay in the top group. That’s what we want.” However, it is questionable who will be available to him: Tim Stappmann was already missing (torn ligament), Kabambi will certainly be out, Sven Kreyer (bruise) had to be substituted, Pierre Fassnacht (muscle) is behind in training.

Critical point squad depth

“Not everyone is on board at Münster either “, says Terranova, who doesn’t want to put too much stock in this aspect. He has identified another point, which he also expressed to President Hajo Sommers weeks ago: “Ultimately, it’s all a question of quality, and I see a deficit here compared to others as soon as someone drops out. “ In other words, the coach believes that adding personnel is essential and refers to the various personnel operations at the neighbouring leaders.

The coach knows that RWO is not as well off financially as others. But he also knows: “We have already proven that we are absolutely on a par and we want to stay at least at this level if one or the other has to be absent due to injury. “ The best argument to convince potential backers would be three points in Münster.
