Eintracht Frankfurt will field a second team in the Hessenliga from the coming season. This was decided by the Hessian Football Association on Monday.
After the Frankfurt side announced an application for the inclusion of a second team in the Hessenliga last week, it is now official: “The HFV Committee for Match Operations and Football Development decided in a virtual meeting to incorporate Eintracht Frankfurt’s second team. Accordingly, Eintracht Frankfurt II will compete in the LOTTO Hessenliga from the 2022/23 season onwards,” the Bundesliga club announced in a press release.
Markus Krösche was delighted: “We would like to thank all those involved, especially the HFV and the LOTTO Hessenliga clubs, for their trust and support,” said the Frankfurt sporting director. “With the approval, the formal course has now been set to be able to further promote youth development at Eintracht Frankfurt. In terms of future direction, the reintroduction of a second team is a milestone for Eintracht Frankfurt. “
Integration from 2022/23
Hessenliga match director Thorsten Bastian explained: “Eintracht Frankfurt has presented us with a convincing concept in which it is outlined that young talents should receive competitive practice at the highest possible level. As the Hessian Football Association, we are committed to promoting talent. Among other things, this will allow younger players to gain match practice in the second team and not be lost to us, as has been the case in the recent past.”
According to Frankfurt, the second team will be organisationally integrated into Eintracht’s youth development centre, which will thus have eleven teams from the 2022/23 season.
