According to information, Hertha BSC, sixteenth in the league, will travel to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday evening without their previous regular keeper Alexander Schwolow.
In the press conference on Thursday, Hertha coach Tayfun Korkut had said: “We have three goalkeepers available for the game. In the end, I will decide relatively late and at short notice who will be between the posts.” Alexander Schwolow will not be, according to reports. Hertha’s previous number one had missed the last two games in Freiburg (0:3) and against Frankfurt (1:4) due to a coronavirus infection. The 29-year-old had returned to training this week but, according to information, did not travel to the crisis duel in Gladbach.
Schwolow was already on the verge of being replaced in the Berlin goal in January after a number of weaker games, but initially kept his place at that time because with the Danish summer newcomer Oliver Christensen, the established number two was out with a thigh injury. Without Schwolow and Christensen, 20-year-old Marcel Lotka made his Bundesliga debut a fortnight ago in Freiburg and delivered a good debut. Against Frankfurt, in his second appearance, Lotka made a mistake before the intermediate 0:3 when he came out of the box without need and played the ball into the feet of goal scorer Jesper Lindström.
The Polish U-21 international, who grew up in the Ruhr area, will move to Borussia Dortmund’s U23s on a free transfer after this season. In Gladbach, Lotka will make his third Bundesliga appearance – if Korkut, who is considering switching from a four-man to a five-man defence after the flood of goals conceded in recent weeks, does not switch to Christensen.
