Hertha BSC have parted ways with Pal Dardai – and have already presented a new head coach in Tayfun Korkut.
Pal Dardai must vacate his post as head coach of Hertha BSC for the second time. On Monday, the Bundesliga 14th announced the separation from the Hungarian. His assistants Andreas “Zecke” Neuendorf and Admir Hamzagic also have to go.
The new head coach is Tayfun Korkut, whose last coaching stop was VfB Stuttgart from January to October 2018. The 47-year-old will be given a contract until the end of the season and will bring Ilija Aracic with him as co-coach.
“We would like to expressly thank Pal Dardai for his work. He took over the team last season in a difficult situation and kept it in the league under challenging circumstances,” Hertha’s sporting director Fredi Bobic was quoted as saying in the club’s statement. Dardai, who had already served as head coach from February 2015 until June 2019, had succeeded Bruno Labbadia in January 2021.
Korkut to give Hertha “new input “
“With Tayfun Korkut, we now want to give the team new impetus and new input. Tayfun has already proven in the past that he can not only stabilise a team, but also develop it further with his meticulous and passionate work and his idea of football,” Bobic continued.
Hertha have been waiting for their fifth win of the season in the Bundesliga since the 1-0 defeat to Gladbach on 23 October. Since then, they have only picked up two points in four appearances and lost the derby at Union Berlin (0-2). The Old Lady is currently only one point away from the relegation play-off places.
Korkut, who will be introduced at a press conference at 3pm, thanked those responsible for their trust and promises: “I’m full of energy and very much looking forward to this exciting task.” He will make his debut on Sunday – in the away match against his former club Stuttgart.
