“He wanted to become Bayern coach”: Rummenigge tells of talks with Mourinho

José Mourinho at FC Bayern? There have been talks about that, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge revealed.

Champions League winner with Porto, 15-goal defence at Chelsea, 100-point championship at Real, the treble with Inter. It is a special list of achievements that the self-proclaimed “Special One “ can boast.

However, José Mourinho was probably too special for FC Bayern – even though the Portuguese would have liked to coach the German record champions. At least that’s what ex-Bayern boss Karl-Heinz Rummenigge revealed in an interview with Italian TV channel “Rai”.

“A few years ago”, Rummenigge did not name an exact date, the current AS Roma coach had been interested in an engagement at the FCB, which at the end of the day was not mutual. “He has always made a good impression on me as a person “, said Rummenigge, but in Munich they did not have the feeling that the now 58-year-old Mourinho was the right man for the job.

With Roma, the former successful coach is now only sixth in Serie A after a strong start to the season, and he won his last major title in 2017 – the Europa League with Manchester United.
