He replaces Boris Becker as TV pundit on Eurosport

Boris Becker is in prison – and accordingly cannot pursue his role as TV pundit on Eurosport. The broadcaster announced the replacement of the former number one on Wednesday.

Mischa Zverev will replace Boris Becker as a TV pundit on Eurosport. The broadcaster from Unterföhring announced this in a press release on Wednesday. The brother of the current number one Alexander Zverev will guide through the programme “Matchball” (previously “Matchball Becker”) together with commentator and presenter Matthias Stach.

Zverev a familiar face on Eurosport

“With Mischa Zverev, we have an expert who is not only close to the action, but has already worked for Eurosport at the Grand Slams and also covered the entire tennis tournament at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games from the studio in Munich-Unterföhring for Eurosport. He therefore knows both our team and the processes,” said Gernot Bauer, Head of Sports at Eurosport Germany, in the press release.

Zverev is looking forward to the task: “These will be two intensive tennis weeks with top-class matches. I want to explain to the viewers not only the small details that can often make a big difference, but also convey the enthusiasm for tennis.”

This year, as last time, the duo Zverev/Stach will not be broadcasting from Paris, but from the studio in Unterföhring. Presenter Birgit Nössing and expert Barbara Rittner, who will look back on the matches of the day in her programme “First Serve Rittner” every day at around 6:30 p.m., will also broadcast from the studio in Unterföhring.

Convicted tennis icon Becker actually still has a contract with Eurosport until 2023. According to a report in “Sport Bild”, the broadcaster is in talks with Becker’s management. Last Friday, the 54-year-old was sentenced in London to two and a half years in prison for bankruptcy fraud, of which he must serve at least half.
