NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has questioned rookie star Victor Wembanyama’s style of play in an interview. According to him, the Frenchman does not use his height to his advantage
Four-time NBA champion O’Neal is making headlines these days. Just recently, former Lakers center Rudy Gobert sharply criticized him and called him the “worst player of all time”. Now “Shaq” has turned his attention to the reigning Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama.
“Wemby is a great player,” admitted the 52-year-old. “But I don’t think he can really dominate when he takes so many shots.” Instead, O’Neal believes Wembanyama needs to look for more finishes near the basket, where he can make better use of his size advantage.
“With his size, he’s a perimeter player. But when he takes so many shots from outside, he will always have to contend with fluctuations.”
At 2.24 meters, the 20-year-old is already the tallest player in the NBA. He already flashed his potential several times in his rookie season 2023/24. In 71 games, he averaged 21.4 points and 10.6 rebounds.
