The Romanian played her last previous match at the 2022 US Open
Despite a promising start, Romanian tennis player Simona Halep only made a brief comeback after her doping ban. In her first match since reducing her ban, the Romanian lost 6:1, 4:6, 3:6 to former world number two Paula Badosa from Spain at the WTA tournament in Miami.
Halep was on court for just under two hours.
Halep’s ban was only reduced from four years to nine months by the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on March 5. She had already served this sentence at the time.
Last year, she was banned for four years by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) for two anti-doping rule violations. Her last appearance to date was at the 2022 US Open.
