Hainer confirms: Hernandez appears in court

In the criminal case surrounding Lucas Hernandez, an FC Bayern official has now spoken out for the first time.

Hernandez will appear before the 32nd Criminal Court in Madrid on 19 October. Bayern president Herbert Hainer confirmed this on Thursday. “He’s going there now, then it will be heard, then we’ll see,” he said on the sidelines of the official opening of the 1900 clubhouse at the Munich campus.

It had emerged on Wednesday that Hernandez had been summoned by the court. In December 2019, he had been sentenced to six months in prison for violating a ban on approaching and contacting his then girlfriend and now wife.

FC Bayern initially did not comment on the matter, Hainer’s statement was the first statement on the case. However, the president did not want to go into more detail. “These are private things of Lucas Hernandez, I don’t want to evaluate them,” Hainer continued. It is therefore still unclear whether Hernandez will play in the Champions League match against Benfica Lisbon next Wednesday – one day after the hearing in Madrid.
