Honda factory rider Marc Marquez confirms positive impressions of motocross test at private test in Portimao and gears up for Sepang
Marc Marquez’s recovery continues to progress. After Marquez trained again with an off-road bike a few days ago (more information), the Spaniard was able to do some laps on a Grand Prix track again last Sunday for the first time since the MotoGP race in Misano at the end of October. Marquez and Honda chose the challenging uphill and downhill track in Portimao, Portugal, for the occasion.
Marquez rode a Honda RC213V-S – the Honda MotoGP replica limited to 250 units. Already during his comeback last year, Marquez checked his form with the exclusive V4 Honda, which was sold to wealthy customers for more than 200,000 euros in 2015 and 2016.
At the test in Portimao, Marquez did 65 laps and drew a positive conclusion. According to the ex-champion, the problems with the double vision are a thing of the past. “I’m very happy because I was able to ride on a track again and confirm with the road bike the positive impressions that I noticed on the motocross bike,” commented Marquez.
“When I was riding I had a great feeling, a feeling of relief. I didn’t have any problems with the vision,” reported the factory Honda rider. However, due to the long break in training, Marquez realised that he still lacked the necessary power.
“Because I couldn’t ride for such a long time, I reached some limits physically,” admits Marquez. “But that’s normal because I didn’t have a normal preparation for the season. There is still room for improvement. But the important takeaway from this test is that I was able to confirm the feeling I had on the motocross bike and that I handled the speeds well. “
“I completed an intense day with many laps and I am happy with the results,” summed up Marquez, who is now fully focused on the MotoGP pre-season test in Sepang. “We have two weeks before the testing starts in Sepang. I will take the opportunity to intensify my physical preparations and training on the bike.”
The official tests with all teams in preparation for the 2022 MotoGP season will take place in Sepang (Malaysia) on 5-6 February and in Mandalika (Indonesia) from 11-13 February.
