Haas on Zverev: Soon back among the world’s best

Tommy Haas believes that Olympic tennis champion Alexander Zverev will soon be back among the best in the world after his serious foot injury.

“After tearing his ligaments in the semi-finals of the French Open, this is the first time he has had to take a longer break. After that, you first have to regain confidence and strength. However, he has a good environment and I’m sure he won’t have to wait long until he’s back at the top of the world,” Haas said in an interview with the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”.

There are no guarantees, even for Zverev’s first Grand Slam title. “Suddenly you are in your late 20s and still don’t have a title. But I would definitely not bet against him,” said the former Davis Cup player (44).

Situation can also have “something positive “

Haas, who has often had to deal with injuries himself, would probably not have to give Zverev any advice. “Maybe he even realises how much he cares about the sport. A situation like this can always have something positive,” said the Hamburg native.

Zverev had twisted his right foot on 3 June in the semi-finals of the French Open against Rafael Nadal and tore all three lateral ligaments in his right ankle. He subsequently underwent surgery. The 25-year-old is currently undergoing rehabilitation in Donaustauf.
