Ex-Haas team principal Günther Steiner stays busy: He has taken on an ambassadorial role for the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix in May
Book author, TV pundit and now ambassador: Günther Steiner never gets bored after his active time as Haas Formula 1 team boss. The 58-year-old has become an ambassador for this year’s Miami Grand Prix.
“I’m excited to serve as an ambassador for the Miami Grand Prix, which has become one of my favorite races of the year,” says Steiner.
“I’ve seen firsthand the incredible growth of Formula 1 in the U.S., and it has so much potential to continue to grow, especially with races like Miami. The event combines American spectacle and Formula 1 racing with a vibrant atmosphere at the track and in the city itself.”
Steiner has lived in the United States for two decades and runs a composites company there. Thanks to his appearances in the Netflix series “Drive to Survive”, he has become quite popular – another reason for the ambassador job.
“Günther is a household name among Formula 1 fans of all ages and a perfect ambassador for our race,” says Tyler Epp, President of the Miami Grand Prix. He embodies the competitive spirit of the sport and has a clear vision of what Formula 1 can be and achieve in America.
“Attracting someone with his experience, reputation and openness to our event will undoubtedly increase the excitement and take the race weekend to a new level,” the event director is certain.
Steiner was Team Principal of the Haas racing team from its foundation in 2016 until last winter. After the team finished last in the 2023 Constructors’ Championship, his contract was not renewed
In a recent column for F1.com, Steiner said he is thoroughly enjoying his time away from active Formula 1 duty, but has not ruled out a return to a managerial role should a favorable opportunity arise.
“Life has been good since I left Haas before this season,” he wrote. “In the last few weeks I have taken a break from Formula 1 for the first time in about ten years. This time has been good for me. The more time passes, the more I can see that I stayed at Haas for too long.”
And the former team boss added: “I would return to Formula 1 in the future, but it has to be the right project and done right. “
