Manchester City is currently in a sporting crisis – and with it, Pep Guardiola is in unfamiliar territory. And yet the Catalan remains committed to the Skyblues, and the announcement of a new contract is apparently imminent.
According to The Athletic, Pep Guardiola has decided to remain loyal to Manchester City. It seems a new one-year contract is on the cards, with the option of an additional season. The current contract would expire at the end of the current season.
If this news is also announced by the Premier League club soon, the successful coach would be tied to the Skyblues for over a decade. Since 2016, the Catalan and former star coach of FC Bayern or FC Barcelona has been in charge of ManCity – including six championships in England and the 2023 Champions League triumph.
The fact that the decision is to be made during this time in particular should please the City movers and shakers – after all, it was not entirely clear in recent weeks whether the 53-year-old would really remain on board at the end of the season.
In addition, the reigning champions are currently in the throes of a sporting crisis. Erling Haaland, Ilkay Gündogan & Co. have lost four competitive games in a row – which also represents the weakest phase under Coach Guardiola. Most recently, they lost 2-1 at Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Skyblues now face Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, before the Champions League clash with Feyenoord Rotterdam (Tuesday, 9pm CET) and then the clash with league leaders Liverpool (December 1).
An official confirmation of Guardiola’s extension is expected in the next few days.
