In October, Regina Halmich will be honoured in Las Vegas.
Great honour for Regina Halmich: The former boxing world champion will be awarded the “Lifetime Achievement Award 2023″ in Las Vegas on 7 October.
The ceremony will take place as part of the tenth anniversary of the “International Women’s Boxing Hall of Fame”. Halmich, who held the flyweight title from 1995 to 2007, had already been inducted into the “International Boxing Hall of Fame” in June 2022.
Halmich had conceded her only career defeat (56 fights, 54 wins, one draw) against Yvonne Trevino in Las Vegas in 1995. “To be immortalised in the ‘International Boxing Hall of Fame’ together with the world’s greatest boxers was an accolade. Now to return to the place of my only defeat to be honoured is great,” Halmich said.
Meanwhile, Halmich still remembers her defeat to Trevino clearly. “That was my worst day. My bloodied face was on the front pages of the tabloids. Headlines like: ‘Does it really have to be that women box?’ rolled over. Yes, it had to be. Giving up was never an option. True to my motto, I never took a step back unless it was to take a run-up,” said the 46-year-old.
