Alexander Zverev has never gone far at Wimbledon. But the draw means well for him this time
Alexander Zverev has had a favorable draw for the grass-court classic at Wimbledon.
The French Open finalist will face the Spanish world number 65 Roberto Carballes Baena in his first round match. The two have only met once before. Last year, Zverev won the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid on clay in three sets
Zverev is struggling in London
Zverev, who has never made it past the round of 16 at Wimbledon, has been drawn into the lower half of the tournament. This means that he could only meet defending champion Carlos Alcaraz from Spain or the Italian world number one Jannik Sinner in a possible final. A possible semi-final opponent would be the record Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic from Serbia, who has been struggling recently.
Angelique Kerber faces Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva on her return to Wimbledon after her maternity leave and has thus been given an unpleasant task. The world number 34 has been in good form on grass recently and won the preparatory tournament in Birmingham last week.
Tatjana Maria, a Wimbledon semi-finalist in 2022, will face the British number 32 seed Katie Boulter in her first-round match
