Mohamed Salah remains in first place in the third Golden Shoe ranking of the new year – even though he has not been able to increase his goal tally. As expected, Alex Matthias Tamm’s high is slowly coming to an end.
For a few weeks, Alex Matthias Tamm was pleased with his top-3 placement in the Golden Shoe ranking. However, the 23-year-old Estonian had a decisive advantage over his competitors: the domestic league begins in March and ends in November. So when the first rankings were published, the Nomme Kalju striker from the Estonian Premium Liiga already had a full season’s goal tally to his name.
Tamm scored 28 goals in 35 appearances for the runners-up last season. However, because the Estonian league is given a factor of 1, while the number of goals scored by players from the German Bundesliga (and the other four top leagues in Europe) is given a factor of 2, the star strikers from Germany, England and the other top leagues quickly caught up. Tamm is still in the top eight in the ranking, but he will soon slip further down. As is usually the case in the early stages of the Golden Shoe ranking. Reginaldo Ramires of Riga FC, who scored 25 goals in Latvia (also factor 1), is facing a similar fate.
Salah remains in the lead
On the other hand, there has been relatively little change at the top since the last ranking two weeks ago. Mohamed Salah of Liverpool FC continues to hold the top spot, although the Egyptian has not scored in the past two weeks and still has 18 goals (factor 2).
Erling Haaland (17, factor 2, Manchester City) and Viktor Gyökeres (22, factor 1.5, Sporting Lisbon) have climbed slightly with one goal each, while Robert Lewandowski (16, factor 2, FC Barcelona) has fallen out of the top 3. From the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane (16, factor 2) and Omar Marmoush (15, factor 2), who is still with Frankfurt, remain high up the rankings.
