It was only at the last moment that SV Waldhof Mannheim rescued a point against Wiesbaden on Monday evening. Coach Patrick Glöckner was ambivalent after the 1-1 draw – and warned against arrogance after a new best.
31 points after 17 games – SV Waldhof have never been in such a good position in the 3. Liga. With the 1-1 draw against Wehen Wiesbaden, the club not only remained unbeaten at home for the ninth game in a row, it also set a new record: In its best half of the season so far in the 3. Liga – the Hinrunde 2019/20 – it had 30 points, after 19 games mind you. “We haven’t achieved anything yet, that’s just a nice snapshot,” Glöckner warned on “MagentaSport” against any arrogance.
“Possession is unimportant, it’s about effectiveness “
But it almost didn’t come to anything (yet) with the new record. It was only in the final minute that a controversial own goal by Wiesbaden goalkeeper Arthur Lyska saved the point. After the visitors had already taken the lead in the second minute, Mannheim cut their teeth on their opponents’ strong defence. “Wiesbaden did a very compact job defensively, with a lot of running, with a lot of heart and passion. That looked very good, you first have to find the key to get through,” Glöckner praised the performance of the Hessians.
On his own team, he criticised the playful approach, the lack of creativity and determination. “We were not purposeful in the first half in terms of balance and gallantry, too hectic and too nervous. Then it got better in the second half. But against such a deep opponent it is always difficult to find solutions. That’s why we are happy about the point in the end, a point for morale. Even though we had more possession, but that’s not important, that doesn’t mean anything, it’s about effectiveness,” the 45-year-old summed up.
“We will not do a damn thing “
Two contrasting tasks await the third-placed team in the table in the coming weeks. Next Saturday they travel to last-place TSV Havelse, then to leaders Magdeburg. “You don’t need to think this will be an easy game,” Glöckner warned of Havelse, however. “That’s a team you have to watch out for like hell. They’ve already annoyed a lot of people. We’ll be damned if we’re going to underestimate anyone. “
