Daniel Ginczek is leaving VfL Wolfsburg with immediate effect to join Fortuna Düsseldorf in the 2nd Liga.
Ginczek’s contract at VfL would have run until the end of the season, but the 30-year-old striker is leaving Wolfsburg six months early to join second-division side Fortuna Düsseldorf. This was announced by both clubs on Saturday. Ginczek has signed a contract with the Red-Whites until 30 June 2024.
The native of North Rhine-Westphalia played for VfL for three and a half years, having moved to Wolfsburg from VfB Stuttgart for the 2018/19 season. Before that, Ginczek, who grew up in the BVB youth team, played for 1. FC Nürnberg, St. Pauli and VfL Bochum. He played 120 times in the Bundesliga (29 goals) and 79 times in the 2nd Bundesliga (27 goals). In addition, he made five appearances in the Europa League and one in the Champions League, among others.
More playing practice with Fortuna
Due to serious injuries, however, Ginczek has also had to cope with many months in rehab during his career. In Wolfsburg, the competition in the offensive was huge, at the Fortuna now beckon more assignments again.
“Daniel brings a lot of experience with him and knows what is needed in the 2nd Bundesliga to score goals. Also thanks to his physicality, we get more options for our offensive game,” explained Fortuna head coach Christian Preußer on Saturday.
Ginczek himself said of his move to the fifteenth-placed team in the table: “I’ve had sympathy for Fortuna Düsseldorf for a long time and I’m glad that it’s worked out now. With my experience, but above all with my performance on the pitch and hopefully many goals, I want to help us get out of the bottom.
