Daniel Ginczek (30) and Admir Mehmedi (30) have no future at VfL Wolfsburg. The duo may already leave the club in the winter.
“Shocked, surprised” and “disappointed” was Admir Mehmedi when he learned in September that he was not nominated for the Champions League squad of VfL Wolfsburg. Since then, the Swiss’s status has sunk even lower, he is no longer in demand under coach Mark van Bommel.
Mehmedi was that fateful sixth substitute in the first-round cup match in Münster, which subsequently cost Wolfsburg progress. He was also substituted in the Bundesliga opener against Bochum (1:0), but not since.
Things are only marginally better for Daniel Ginczek, who celebrated his season debut late on against Gladbach (1:3). The striker, whose contract, like Mehmedi’s, expires in 2022, can also look for a new challenge in the winter. VfL will not extend the contracts with the duo. There have not yet been any concrete enquiries.
