The team of the German Wrestling Federation can hope for the first medals at the World Championships in Belgrade.
Anastasia Blayvas and Elena Brugger only lost in the semi-finals on Monday, so both will be in the fight for bronze on Tuesday evening.
Blayvas (Leipzig), third at the U23 European Championships, had no chance against the US-American Jacarra Winchester in the semifinals of the 55 kg category. The European bronze medallist Brugger (Adelhausen) lost in the semi-finals against the Ukrainian vice European champion Julija Tkatsch. The opponents of the two Germans in the small final will be determined on Tuesday.
In the last men’s freestyle categories, Erik Thiele (KAV Mansfelder Land) kept his medal chances alive. In the 97 kg category Thiele lost to Magomedchan Magomedov from Azerbaijan. However, because Magomedov reached the final, Thiele will be able to compete again in the hope round on Tuesday.
