Chile is actually the favorite in the German Davis Cup group. But the Chileans don’t manage much in their first match
The favored team from Chile has suffered a surprisingly clear opening defeat in the German Davis Cup group. The South Americans, who were represented by the two top 30 players Alejandro Tabilo and Nicolas Jarry, were beaten 3-0 by the USA in Zhuhai, China.
Reilly Opelka and Brandon Nakashima both secured success for the Americans with three-set victories after the two singles matches, and they also won the doubles in three sets.
Germany now against Chile
The German tennis team also won their first match against Slovakia 3:0 on Tuesday. The team led by doubles specialists Tim Pütz and Kevin Krawietz will now face Chile this Wednesday. The final match will be against the USA on Saturday.
The German team will have to make do without Alexander Zverev and Jan-Lennard Struff in China. Nevertheless, the aim is to qualify for the Davis Cup finals in Malaga in November as first or second in the four-team group
