German duel in the MLS: Wagner retains the upper hand over Mukthar

Philadelphia Union led by Kai Wagner win 3-0 against Nashville SC and Hany Mukhtar. The top teams from the East and West also celebrated victories

On Sunday night, there was a German duel in the MLS. The smiling winner was former Schalke left-back Wagner from Philadelphia Union. After just 10 minutes, the Swabian-born player was able to celebrate for the first time in front of the Berlin-born Mukhtar in Nashville SC kit. After a pinpoint pass, teammate Gazdag appeared free in front of goal and did not miss the chance with a sensitive lob. It was the striker who increased the lead shortly before the break. After a no-look pass from Uhre, the Hungarian was free again and finished with a powerful finish to make it 2:0 at the break (38′).

There was hardly any sign of the visitors in the first half, but that was to change after the restart – thanks in particular to the 29-year-old German. First, Mukhtar missed his best chance of the game with a header from five meters out (50′), then Kallmann’s header from a corner failed to hit the crossbar (67′). At the other end, Bueno missed the decision one minute after coming on as a substitute (76′), before Bunbery made a great save from the keeper after a one-two with the three-time Germany U-21 international (85′).

It took until the 89th minute before Kallmann slipped in the penalty area and gave Gazdag a great chance to make it three. The 28-year-old thanked him profusely and scored to make it 3:0. Philadelphia thus secured important points in the battle for the play-offs in the Eastern Conference. With the win, Philadelphia overtook Nashville in the table and climbed to 10th place – one point away from the playoffs – thanks to points 25 to 27. Nashville are two points off twelfth place

Inter Miami extends lead without Messi

Inter Miami remain at the top of the Eastern Conference. The team from Florida won without Messi, who is still on vacation after the Copa, against Chicago Fire, who were also missing their biggest star – Shaqiri did not stay with his club after the EURO. Rojas set the tone early in the 2:1 home win (6th). After a brief moment of shock when ex-Cologne and Kiel player Czichos equalized (73′), it was Jordi Alba who scored his fourth goal of the season to extend their lead to five points thanks to the slip-up of runners-up Cincinnati (1-3 at the New York Red Bulls).

Enger, on the other hand, is in the Western Conference. Marco Reus’ potential new employers, LA Galaxy, continue to lead the table after a 3:2 win against the Portland Timbers. Close behind are city rivals LA FC. After an unbeaten streak of 13 games, the team from the City of Angels won again after two games without a win. After the 3-0 win against the Seattle Sounders, they are two points off first place – but FC still have two games to catch up on
