Gamescom 2024 has filled its partnership pavilion: With Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Estonia, Koelnmesse was able to win six countries as partners
The gamescom organizer and the industry association game e.V. did not choose the partner region by chance. After all, according to the official announcement, the Northern European countries are “major players in the games industry” that have produced some of “the world’s best-known video game brands”.
Scandinavia stands out
In fact, the Scandinavian portfolio is particularly prominent. Minecraft and Battlefield, for example, were penned by Swedish studios Candy Crush and its mobile competitor Angry Birds as well as Alan Wake and May Payne fly the Finnish flag high. So it’s no wonder that the six partner countries form one of the “strongest and largest” video game regions on the continent with “around 1,400 companies”, around 15,000 employees and a “total turnover of almost seven billion euros.”
In cooperation with game and the Nordic Game Institute, this diversity and strength is now to be presented in a bundle at the trade fair in Cologne for the second time since 2014. “This year, we are working together to put a stronger focus on the games scene in the Nordic countries. By being closely integrated into gamescom, we are creating the best conditions for a high level of visibility for the region, where globally renowned franchises have been created, and the companies that have developed them,” said Gerald Böse, CEO of Koelnmesse, explaining this step.
Visitors will be able to see exactly how visibility will be created at the trade fair at the end of August. gamescom 2024 kicks off on August 20 and closes on August 25.
