G2 Esports wins RLCS Winter Majors

The winner of the Rocket League Winter Majors has been decided: G2 Esports wins the title and celebrates its first success in an offline tournament since the ELEAGUE Cup 2017.

In the previous autumn tournament, the organisation was eliminated in the group stage – at the Winter Majors, the team around Jacob Knapman, Reed Wilen and Massimo Franceschi literally flew to victory. Unbeaten in the group phase, they went through Furja and Spacesation Gaming to the final. Team Queso, who had fought their way into the final in the lower bracket, was waiting there. After a thrilling duel in the best-of-seven mode, G2 won 4:2 and secured 90,000 US dollars (300,000 US dollars prize pool) for first place.

The longest-serving G2 pro, Jacob ‘JKnaps’ Knapman (with the team since 2017), expressed relief after the triumph: “Someone asked me earlier in the hotel what I would do if I lost another final… I guess we’ll never find out.” Colleague Massimo “Atomic” Franceschi could hardly put his joy into words: “It feels incredible, I can’t describe it. “

Europe falls short of expectations

Although G2 Esports are based in Berlin, two US nationals (Willen and Franceschi) and one Canadian (Knapman) are racing for the Rocket League team. The European teams were unable to build on previous successes at the Winter Majors.

Team BDS won the autumn tournament, but the Swiss team lost to FaZe Clan in the second round of the lower bracket. Only the Spaniards from Team Queso were convincing and made it to the final. On their way there, they eliminated the Evil Geniuses.

The only German representatives at the RLCS Winter Majors were Riccardo ‘Rizex45’ Mazzotta and Leonardo ‘Catalysm’ Ramos. The Rocket League eSport continues with the Spring Majors. The kick-off is on 29 June.
