The frequency with which EA SPORTS is currently making mistakes in FIFA 22 Ultimate Team (FUT) is alarming – but in some cases fans were allowed to rejoice.
Mistakes are as unwelcome in video games as they are in other areas of life – especially when lessons are not learned. In the titles of the FIFA series, mistakes are already a tradition. This is certainly due in no small part to the amount of content in the FUT mode in particular.
Social media accounts like ‘FIFA22Mistakes’ exist, which deal exclusively with EA SPORTS’ mishaps in the popular football simulation. The Twitter channel now has almost 30,000 followers, most of whom mock the developer’s faux pas.
EA gives out multiple “gifts “
117 such missteps are counted by ‘FIFA22Mistakes’ so far for the offshoot, which has been available worldwide since October 2021. Never before has the frequency and the consequences of the shortcomings in FIFA 22 been as high as in the past one and a half weeks – ‘FIFA Direct Communication’ had its hands full.
The biggest buzz was probably caused by the premature release of Christian Eriksen’s new Fantasy FUT item. Even before the promo was officially opened on Friday evening, an error caused all basic cards of the Dane in the jersey of FC Brentford to be converted into the special version.
The fans were able to rejoice in part: Instead of their previous 82 variant, the 90 card greeted them in the FUT club on Friday morning – with significantly improved values in other respects as well. The players were also favoured by an oversight that mistakenly provided them with Icon Moments rewards.
Seven FUT bucks in just ten days
Intended were Icon Rewards of the Mid or Prime versions for the SBC, in both cases EA SPORTS did not compensate to the detriment of the lucky ones. The community was even given a collective gift when the developer slept through the release of the 24th and last token shortly before in the course of the FUT Birthday promo.
Complementing these inattentions were problems with the fifth season’s Level 10 Reward, an 83-90×5 player pack SBC, a pack to the first FUT Birthday team and the quick sale of Radamel Falcao’s object. Seven serious mistakes made by EA SPORTS in just ten days.
Focus already on next title?
Some fans in the social networks even claimed ironically – especially in view of the first three mishaps – that the developer would finally take up the fight against the pay-to-win mechanic through these “gifts”. Most users, however, were merely stunned by the error rate.
Given the time of year, it’s easy to suspect that EA SPORTS is already shifting its focus towards its upcoming title – that’s no excuse. And as long as the video game company fluffs at this frequency, it has to put up with the scorn and derision of the community.
