As depressing as the season is for the cloverleaf, with Timothy Tillman and Jamie Leweling two young players are currently convincing, who not everyone had on their minds in terms of the starting eleven. They also provided impetus in the offensive in the 3:6 against Hoffenheim.
A ball won by Tillman initiated the 1:0 through Jamie Leweling via Branimir Hrgota. Tillman himself scored the second goal, his first in 14 Bundesliga games. For the third Fürth goal of the afternoon, Leweling again had his feet in the game when he set up Hrgota. Not a bad afternoon offensively for the duo, who have the best average marks in the Fürth squad. After 13 appearances (six of them graded), 20-year-old Leweling has a 3.17 with three goals and two assists. Tillman, two years older, has only four graded games (eight appearances), his average is 3.38. He has scored one goal and prepared three. In the team’s internal scorer list, only captain Branimir Hrgota (four goals, three assists) is ahead of the up-and-coming duo.
Tillman was not set at the beginning of the season, at the moment he is probably ahead of Julian Green. His fine technique enriches the Fürth game, and the former Bayern talent also looks more robust than before. Leweling, on the other hand, benefits from the switch to a 4-3-3 and can play out his speed on the right wing.
Despite all the joy about his own achievements: In the end, it’s the team’s success that counts, as Tillman emphasised after the 3:6 against Hoffenheim: “I’m happy about the goal, but points for the team would have pleased me more.” The performance has brought him closer to the starting eleven, and his motto carries him through: “What counts for me is that I can say to myself that I get everything out of myself every day. I don’t decide whether I play, but what I do.” At the moment that’s very tidy, just as it is with Leweling.
