From Sauber to McLaren: New job for Alessandro Alunni Bravi

From last to first in the Constructors’ Championship: Alessandro Alunni Bravi has joined McLaren in a newly created role shortly after leaving Sauber.

It has only been a week since Alessandro Alunni Bravi’s departure from Sauber was announced, and now the Italian already has a new job – he is joining compatriot Andrea Stella and McLaren, where he will work as Chief Business Affairs Officer for the Woking-based constructor’s world championship-winning team.

At Sauber, the trained lawyer worked as a team representative. In his new role, the 50-year-old will once again be responsible for a range of tasks, including legal and commercial matters, managing driver contracts, and communicating with Formula One owners Liberty Media.

In view of last year’s World Championship standings, Alunni Bravi is definitely making the biggest possible leap, moving directly from last place in the Constructors’ Championship to the newly crowned World Champion: “I am very grateful to be joining such a great organization, whose values and culture can be seen so clearly even from the outside,” says the Italian.

Alunni Bravi: A lifelong McLaren fan

“McLaren is a team I’ve been a big fan of all my life, so of course it naturally triggers special emotions for me personally to have the opportunity to work with such a great group of people,” says Alunni Bravi, who in the newly created position will in future report directly to McLaren boss Zak Brown.

“I would like to repay the trust and confidence that Zak and the board have placed in me by trying to contribute to the continuation of the success story with full commitment and dedication,” explains the 50-year-old, adding: ‘I believe teamwork is the key to everything.’

Alunni Bravi will take up his new position as early as February 1. McLaren CEO Brown is pleased to have immediate support, and in the team’s press release he explicitly refers to the “distinct experience” and “motorsport background” that the Italian brings with him after eight years at Sauber – Alunni Bravi has been working in Hinwil since 2017.

Departure: Head of Communications leaves McLaren

In addition to managing the driver development program and providing expertise in legal matters, the new addition will also be responsible for cross-series business tasks in the McLaren universe. However, the restructuring also means further movement in the team background in Woking:

Stephanie Carlin, for example, who was previously in charge of the McLaren junior program, will now take on other responsibilities within the Formula 1 team. Meanwhile, former head of communications Steve Atkins is leaving McLaren for personal reasons – he wants to devote more time to his family in the future.
