From September 2019 to January 2020, Jeremie Frimpong played for Celtic. And even before Thursday’s clash with his old colleagues, the right-back, currently going strong, took on a dominant role – to the great amusement of his coach.
From Glasgow, Stephan von Nocks reports
He was forced into a solo by the Scottish journalists. One question after the other pelted Jeremie Frimpong. And so he single-handedly took the first half of the press conference before the Europa League match in Glasgow.
The 20-year-old, who won the league and cup with Celtic in 2020, spoke about his emotions after returning to the Scottish metropolis, which he left at the beginning of the year. “When I was on the bus and saw the streets, I remembered what it was like to be here. To see the stadium again and the catacombs – it’s really exciting to be back,” recounted the Dutchman, who, however, despite all his attachment to one or two Celtic professionals (“It’s good to see your friends again”), does not want to cut any slack in the game.
“I am here to do a job: And that is to beat Celtic,” stated Frimpong unequivocally, who warned his new teammates about the special atmosphere at Celtic Park. “Of course I told them that it’s a crazy atmosphere and that they should be prepared for it,” said the darting winger.
“The fans and I had a great relationship “
Frimpong will also be in focus before kick-off when it comes to a reunion with the Celtic supporters. “I hope I get a friendly welcome. The fans and I had a great relationship,” said the Under-21 international, “It will be a good opportunity to say goodbye face to face. I didn’t have the chance to say goodbye in this way.”
Incidentally, Frimpong, who was definitely nervous before the appointment, did not get stuck anywhere during his verbal solo run. And the fact that the first half of the press conference unusually revolved entirely around the player and not the coach visibly amused Werkself coach Gerardo Seoane even during Frimpong’s solo run. So much so that the Swiss remarked with a wink as he left the podium: “Next time we’ll just send Jerry… “
