England

England warmed up for the World Cup in Amsterdam playing against the Netherlands for their first friendly game of 2018. A 1-0 victory over the Netherlands made a confident start for this season. They then went on to drawing with Italy 1-1 for their second friendly match.

GARETH SOUTHGATE

England’s Manager Gareth Southgate previously played for Crystal Palace, Middlesborough and Aston Villa. The 47-year-old was fortunate to win both the 1995 and 1996 League Cups with and Middlesborough and Aston Villa. When his playing career ended at the age of 35 he had stocked up an astonishing 500 league appearances. Not only this but Gareth holds 57 appearances for the England national team alone. With England, he featured in the 1998 FIFA World Cup and both European Championships in 1996 and 2000. He scored twice in his playing career with England, one against Luxembourg in 1998 and one against South Africa in 2003. The former defender/midfielder accepted a four-year deal to coach England in 2016.

HARRY KANE

Appointed in 2017 he is the captain of England and has rescued them numerous times with crucial goals. For Tottenham, he has scored 30 goals in the English Premier League this season. Not only this but Harry has scored in every game he played in the qualifiers. The Three Lions fans were relieved to hear his recent injury will be recovered soon. England’s chances of beating Nigeria are on his shoulders and following the disappointment at the Euro’s Harry is driven to impress.

Nigeria

For their first friendly this year they had a brilliant start beating Poland 1-0 in March. They unfortunately lost 0-2 to Serbia four days later and then drew 1-1 with Congo DR just one day after that.

GERNOT ROHR

In August 2017, 64-year-old former Bayern Munich player Gernot Rohr signed his two-year contract coaching Nigeria. He spent 12 years playing at Bordeaux, where he went on to coaching the club and taking them to the 1996 UEFA Cup Final, where they lost to Bayern. He began his African coaching career at Etoile Sahel in Tunisia, also leading national teams Gabon, Niger, Burkina and Faso before his surprise appointment for Nigeria.

VICTOR MOSES

27-year-old Moses launched his career in the Championship with Crystal Palace, before his performances caught the attention of Wigan Athletic, where he made his Premier League debut. The Nigerian plays as winger or wing-back for Premier League Club Chelsea and the Nigerian National team. He proved to us in the campaign that Nigeria’s playing ability is one level up if he’s present.

JOHN OBI MIKEL

Mikel started his official football career at the age of 12 when he was up picked as a talented footballer from over 3,000 in the Pepsi Football Academy. He is still the orchestrator of the midfield, playing a more advanced midfield role now than he ever did at club level.

KELECHI IHEANACHO

More Experienced players like Moses and Obi Mikel are hugely important for Nigeria however, Kelechi has the tools to make big differences. He’s only 21 but tall and fast, scoring eight goals in 13 appearances for the super eagles. His debut for the Foxes this year has not gone so well. He will be motivated to prove himself at the Wembly.

 PREDICTED LINE-UP

Raheem Sterling from Englands national team made a predicted atmosphere in regards to the up and coming friendly match.

“I probably got more ticket requests than I have had in any game at Wembley, that’s for sure,” Sterling told Extratimesoccerlive. I think we got a great physical team but I know for the fact that the Nigerian team will be as physical as us and technical as us but it’s going to be a game of the day. It is a friendly but I don’t think it would be a friendly game because both teams are really going to get prepared and be ready.”

SOTD’s Odds for England:

[ England 1-0 Nigeria are 17/4 ] [ England 2-0 Nigeria are 19/4 ] [ England 2-1 Nigeria are 15/2 ]

SOTD’s Odds for Nigeria:

[ Nigeria 1-0 England are 161 ] [ Nigeria 2-0 England are 50/1 ] [ Nigeria 2-1 England are 25/1 ]

SPORTS OF THE DAYS VERDICT

Both sides have similar team strength, similar technical skill and their stars really do shine. If it comes down to their stars dictating the match result we think England has it in the bag, however, if we’re to see a result based more off team play then this could be a very close game!
