Strasbourg – Anna-Lena Friedsam followed Angelique Kerber into the last 16 at the tennis tournament in Strasbourg
The 28-year-old defeated Australian Daria Saville 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) in her opening match. Friedsam will now face fourth seed Elise Mertens from Belgium.
Kerber had won 6-3, 6-4 against Diane Parry of France on Monday, ending her losing streak. The German number one had previously lost five matches in a row. Kerber had also accepted a wildcard for the tournament in Strasbourg to gain match practice before the French Open.
The second Grand Slam tournament of the season begins on Sunday in Paris. In Strasbourg, the three-time Grand Slam winner will now face Alyaksandra Sasnovich from Belarus.
