Lyon – Anna-Lena Friedsam has been eliminated from the WTA tournament in Lyon against the Russian tennis player Vitalia Diachenko.
The 28-year-old from Andernach lost to the world number 118 3:6, 6:2, 4:6. Friedsam is number 125 in the world. Although the tennis federations of Russia and Belarus are suspended due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and are not allowed to participate in team competitions, the professionals are still allowed to compete in international tournaments. However, they will no longer be listed under the Russian flag.
Tamara Korpatsch from Hamburg had previously reached the round of 16 in Lyon. There, she will meet Italian number five seed Jasmine Paolini.
