The Fraport Skyliners from Frankfurt have kept their minimal chance of staying in the BBL. The Telekom Baskets Bonn, meanwhile, consolidated their lead in the standings with their ninth win in a row.
By a surprisingly clear 88:69 (50:33) at EWE Baskets Oldenburg on Monday, Frankfurt improved their record to seven wins and 24 losses and climbed to 17th place for the time being.
To remain in the league, the Skyliners must win all three of their remaining games, Braunschweig (10:19) must not pick up another win and Gießen (6:22) must end up with ten victories. Then Luca Dalmonte’s team would still manage to stay in the class by the three-way comparison. “The win today was good for us. If we can maintain that, I reckon we have a good chance,” Frankfurt’s Lorenz Brenneke told Magentasport.
At the disappointing Oldenburg, Frankfurt dominated at will from the second quarter onwards. Despite the previous six losses in a row, the Skyliners were completely superior to the Lower Saxons. Will Cherry was the best scorer for the guests with 21 points.
Telekom Baskets Bonn consolidated their lead in the standings with their ninth win in a row. The Rhinelanders won 82-71 (43-41) against the up-and-coming MLP Academics Heidelberg and are now at the top with 24 wins and seven losses. Javontae Hawkins was the best scorer for coach Tuomas Iisalo’s team with 26 points.
