Four-time Grand Slam winner Kim Clijsters has ended her career at the age of 38. This is the third time the Belgian has turned her back on professional sport – and will only be a spectator in the future.
Four-time Grand Slam winner Kim Clijsters has ended her career. The 38-year-old Belgian announced on social media. “I would like to inform you that I have decided to stop playing tournaments,” wrote Clijsters, whose focus as a mother of three is on her family.
“I still love it “
The former world number one had already turned her back on professional sport twice, in 2007 and 2012. In 2020, Clijsters had then returned for the last time and had, among other things, played the US Open once again without success, which she won in 2005, 2009 and 2010.
Clijsters also held the trophy aloft at the Australian Open in 2011. She played her last match in Indian Wells in October 2021. “I still love hitting balls,” Clijsters said now. But in future she will only appear at WTA tournaments as a spectator.
